Didn’t know they were still flying these things.

Oh yeah. And they’ll be around a while longer. Nothing else has the range (it can fly more than 9,000 miles on a tank of gas) . In fact, they are starting to upgrade the engines in them. That thing is a beast.

Yep, definitely still flying. Of course unlike the B-52, which went out of production in 1962, the Soviets kept building these after they were no longer even Soviets, so while old, the newest ones aren’t terribly ancient. It’s good fun looking at pics of Tu-95 intercepts, since you can get nearly any generation of NATO jet interceptor with them.

Here’s how it looked from the other side.

I also found this. It looks like those two poor sods in the back of the Tu-95 are stuck there for the duration of the 11-hour (or more) mission. Unless there’s a tunnel that isn’t shown in this cutaway.

Surely there’s a tunnel...we had those going back to the B-29.
But being Russia, it could be every man for himself...

I tried to find a better cutaway that would show the presence of a lavatory in the back. If there’s a john, then I’m guessing there’s no tunnel.
